My Story


Hi! I'm Emily...


It's been a bit of a zig zag path to here! I grew up in Hampshire, in a village near Winchester, and have lived in the Test Valley area all my life. After a Biology degree at Oxford University and lots (and lots) of rowing, I was still undecided about my path. After a year of waitressing and a quick trip to Nepal (which didn't work out too well - it's on my bucket list!), I made a pivot and did a second degree at Southampton University, becoming a Physiotherapist...


2 gorgeous girls and an NHS career later, a job within walking distance of home gave me back the gift of time (a valuable commodity as a working Mum...). I started pursuing a dream - to build my own creative business (anybody harboring similar dreams - I highly recommend Holly Tucker's 'Conversations of Inspiration' podcast!). I bought a camera, and Emily Scotney Photography was born in 2022.


So here I am today, on a beautiful creative journey, learning more all the time, stretching my comfort zone every day, and truly loving it.

My loves... The people, places and things that light me up!


  • CORNWALL! I am a beach body through and through. My parents and sister live in North Cornwall and we are down there many, many weekends throughout the year. There is nothing I love more than photographing the joy of the coast. It reflects me and what I value in life perfectly.
  • My two gorgeous girls - growing so fast - now 12 and 15.
  • Cris - my best friend, adventure buddy, and the man who keeps me sane by listening patiently to my overflowing brain.
  • Long walks, especially exploring new places, and ideally by the sea or up a huge hill (with a picnic - always need to remember what epic sandwich I ate on each adventure - haha!).
  • Books! Always. Although there is never enough time to read them (but that can't stop me buying them!)
  • Camping. Van or tent - my Insta stories are full of this - if this is your thing too do follow along for some campsite recommendations.
  • Our VW Transporter conversion - 'Polly' (short for Polzeath and named by the girls - follow me on Insta to see her too - she's a beauty!)
  • Being in the sea, especially the surf (although I am rubbish at surfing). I also love water skiing and wakeboarding... and failing that a cold water morning dip in the back garden will do!!
  • Mugs - I love a good mug and I am very particular haha (and ideally a coffee in it too, obviously!!)
  • Marnie - our loopy chocolate cocker spaniel, and her shrimpy excited 'so pleased to see you' dance - if you know you know - it's a cocker thing! (Again - Insta stories for Marnie spam!)
  • Chocolate - I'm a proper addict. Not bothered by any other vices - wine, gin - nope, it's chocolate all the way for me. Literally any will do but Tony's Chocolony salted caramel is always a winner... or mini eggs!
